Dr. Spindler is the Hart Chair in Corporate and Securities Law at the University of Texas School of Law and a Professor at the McCombs School of Business. He teaches in the areas of securities regulation, capital markets, corporate law, tax, corporate finance, and financial institutions. In the past, he has taught courses at the law schools of University of Virginia, University of Chicago, University of Southern California, and the economics department of Harvard University.

Dr. Spindler’s research focuses on securities disclosure and trading, corporate fraud, corporate governance, cryptocurrency, financial institutions, capital markets and event study analysis, and executive compensation, and has appeared in journals including the Journal of Legal Studies, the American Law & Economics Review, and the law reviews of Chicago, Pennsylvania, Texas, Georgetown, and the Harvard Business Law Review.  Dr. Spindler presents his work internationally at conferences on economics, finance, and law.

Before entering academia, Dr. Spindler practiced law in the New York and Hong Kong offices of Cravath, Swaine & Moore in its securities and banking groups. Professor Spindler holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School, a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles, and an A.B. in Political Economy from Princeton University.  He is a member of the Bar of the State of New York, the American Economics Association, and the American Finance Association.
